At the American Booksellers Association’s next Marketing Meetup for booksellers, “Marketing the Well-Read Black Girl Book Club,” on Thursday, May 9, participants will hear from Glory Edim, founder of Well-Read Black Girl (WRBG), and several booksellers who plan to start their own WRBG clubs.
All booksellers are invited to participate in these bookseller-led educational conversations, which are conducted through Zoom.us and held at 11:00 a.m. EST on two Thursdays a month. Booksellers who would like to participate should e-mail email@example.com for an invitation and instructions.
During the Marketing Meetup on Thursday, May 9, at 11:00 a.m. EDT, Edim will discuss Well-Read Black Girl (WRBG), the book club turned literary festival that provides a vital space for black female readers and writers to connect and grow in conversation. ABA has partnered with Edim to bring book club meetings to independent bookstores and has invited booksellers to sign on to host WRBG book clubs. Guest speakers will review the overall goal of Well-Read Black Girl, talk about the marketing initiatives they have taken so far as well as what they expect from their upcoming WRBG book club events, and share tips from previous experiences.
In addition to Edim, guest speakers will include Kimberly Jones of Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, Georgia; Deidre Dumpson of WORD Bookstores in Brooklyn, New York, and Jersey City, New Jersey; and Tameka Blackshir of Book Soup in West Hollywood, California.
